  • Boulder Canyon introduces compostable packaging for kettle chips

    BOULDER, Colo. — Boulder Canyon Natural Foods is rolling out a single-serve compostable package for its kettle chips in honor of Earth Day.

    The Boulder Canyon compostable packaging is made from wood pulp sourced from plantations that have Forestry Stewardship Council or similar certification. The company said its new 2-oz. compostable bag is available with a suggested retail price of $1.29 per package.

  • Pepsi Max puts spin on 'Field of Dreams'

    NEW YORK — "If you build it, they will come." That was the famous line whispered to Kevin Costner in the baseball film "Field of Dreams."

    But this time, Pepsi Max, which has been named the official soft drink of Major League Baseball, developed two ad spots that put a spin on the film. Baseball legends and current players star alongside the Pepsi Max driver to prove that if Pepsi Max builds a "Clubhouse in the Corn," the players will come.

  • Weaver touts first-ever microwave popcorn made with olive oil

    NOBLESVILLE, Ind. — The first microwave popcorn made with olive oil has hit retail.

    Weaver's Weaver Gold line comes in movie theater butter and parmesan with Italian herbs and garlic flavors. Each flavor provides the health benefits of olive oil, the company said. The company also is slated to introduce light butter and classic butter flavors.

    New Weaver Gold microwave popcorn made with olive oil now is available at mass market retailers nationwide and online at Amazon.com.

  • Three classic action films arrive on Blu-ray

    LOS ANGELES — Three action-packed films are making their Blu-ray debut.

    20th Century Fox Home Entertainment said that "The Hustler," "The Comancheros" and "Tigerland" will be available next month. Additionally, "The Hustler" and "The Comancheros" both celebrate their 50th anniversary and will feature special Blu-ray book packaging, including rare photos from the Fox archives and brand new special features.

  • Chobani stakes claim as No. 1 yogurt brand

    NORWICH, N.Y. — Chobani has captured the U.S. yogurt market as the leading brand in the category, according to SymphonyIRI Group data.

    The Greek yogurt brand surpassed such competitors as Yoplait and Dannon, according to SymphonyIRI’s InfoScan Review, which examined the last 12 weeks of sales, ended March 20, across food, drug and mass (excluding Walmart).

    What's more, SymphonyIRI recently named Chobani as one of the most successful food and beverage consumer packaged goods brands of 2010.

  • Lysol offers tips, tools to control allergens this spring

    PARSIPPANY, N.J. — Lysol, a Reckitt Benckiser brand, is looking to help allergy sufferers this spring.

    The brand announced that it has tapped pediatrician and author Laura Jana, as well as Lysol microbiologist Joe Rubino, to help identify allergen triggers and ways to avoid them. The two star in Lysol's "Allergy-Proofing Your Home" video series, which can be viewed here.

  • Fresh Step 'scoops' out odor

    NEW YORK — Kitty litter brand Fresh Step has introduced a new product that combines natural pine shavings with the odor-control performance of activated carbon.

    New Fresh Step Natural Scoop litter offers such great odor control ingredients as Fresh Step's traditional clay-based litter, but this time with the sustainability benefits of natural wood, the company said. The new product, Fresh Step said, also weighs significantly less than the company's clay-based litter — available in a 20-lb. box — in a bag that weighs 3.3 lbs.
