  • Report: Unions sue to stop Wash. liquor privatization

    NEW YORK — The state government of Washington is set to bow out of the liquor business on June 1 thanks to a ballot initiative that passed last month, but two labor unions are hoping to stop it, according to published reports.

  • Helen of Troy to acquire P&G's Pur business

    EL PASO, Texas — Helen of Troy has signed a definitive agreement to acquire all assets of Procter & Gamble's water purification brand.

    The acquisition of P&G's Pur Water Purification Products company includes the worldwide Pur trademark, its current and future product line, assets related to the operations of the Pur business, manufacturing equipment and more than 200 patents. Pur's products, which include faucet mount systems and filters, pitcher systems and filters, as well as refrigerator filters, are sold throughout the United States.

  • Designer Greetings' new website underscores product offerings

    EDISON, N.J. — Designer Greetings has unveiled its new redesigned website.

    The greeting card publisher said the new site highlights its extensive greeting card line — which touts more than 21,000 designs — as well as boxed Christmas cards, boxed and packaged invitations and thank you notes, and a gift wrap line. Retailers have the opportunity to browse through the company’s history, achievements and customer testimonials en route to sampling its greeting cards, Designer Greetings said.

  • Pyramid introduces new packaging for three beers; slated to roll out new items in 2012

    SEATTLE — Pyramid Breweries has overhauled its packaging for three of its beers.

    The company said its flagship Pyramid Hefeweizen beer, along with the brand's Apricot Ale and Thunderhead IPA, will include pyramids as the focal point of the new design, along with a new font, both of which are designed as a tribute to the brand's original look and feel. Pyramid said it will apply the new look to all of its year-round beers, including six and 12-pack bottles, 22-oz. bottles and draught beer tap handles, later this month.

  • Mars Petcare partners with Rescue Bank

    NASHVILLE — Mars announced that its pet care business has partnered with Rescue Bank to to enable more efficient delivery of pet food donations to animal shelters and rescues.

    Mars Petcare, including Mars Petcare US, The Nutro Co. and Royal Canin, have teamed up with Rescue Bank, which "helps provide a reliable means for distributing wholesome, nutritious pet food that is approaching its “best by” date, benefiting both the manufacturers and nonprofit groups caring for pets in need."

  • BodyArmor SuperDrink earns BevNet award

    SANTA MONICA, Calif. — BodyArmor SuperDrink was named "best functional drink" at the 9th Annual Best of BevNet 2011 Awards ceremony, which was held during the BevNet Live 2011 Winter Conference this week.

    Launched in May, the BodyArmor SuperDrink product line includes four flavors and two teas. Each flavor features proprietary SuperBlends — consisting of polyphenols, vitamins A, C, B complex, electrolytes and amino acids — along with coconut water fortified with additional electrolytes.
