  • Baileys Mudslide keeps consumers cool this summer

    NEW YORK — R&A Bailey & Co. has introduced a ready-to-serve cocktail.

    New Baileys Mudslide ready-to-serve mix touts the flavor of Baileys Irish Cream and is designed to take the hassle out of making summer cocktails, the company said. The mix is available for a limited time only in two sizes for a suggested retail price range of $12.99 to $19.99.

  • PhRMA: California-based drug makers focusing on heart disease, cancer treatments

    WASHINGTON — California-based companies are developing nearly more than one-fifth of the drugs to treat some of the deadliest diseases in the world, according to an analysis by the drug industry lobby.

    According to two Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturers of America reports released this year, of the 1,186 drugs under development for heart disease and cancer, 243 were from California companies. These include 188-of-the-887 drugs for more than 20 types of cancer, and 55-of-the-299 drugs for heart disease and stroke.

  • New Energy-X chewing gum enters market

    LOS ANGELES — Pacific Shore Holdings has added a caffeinated, sugar-free gum to its Energy-X portfolio.

    New Energy-X chewing gum is available in a spearmint flavor and contains 55 mg of caffeine, the company said. The Energy-X line will expand to include a caffeinated gum that features 102 mg of caffeine and will be infused with green tea extract.

    The company currently markets Energy-X lip balm products and is slated to launch an Energy-X protein power bar.

  • FDA approves Incivek as hepatitis C treatment

    SILVER SPRING, Md. — The Food and Drug Administration has approved a treatment for hepatitis C made by Vertex Pharmaceuticals, the agency said Monday.

    The FDA approved Incivek (telaprevir) to treat adults with chronic hepatitis C infection, particularly those who either have not received interferon-based drug therapy or who have not responded to prior therapies. The drug is approved for use with therapies that include ribavirin and peginterferon alfa.

    NEW YORK — Pop star Justin Bieber has dabbled in nail polish and a unisex fragrance. Now, the singing sensation is launching a women's fragrance called "Someday."

    The fragrance will debut in June in partnership with Give Back Brands, a new lifestyle products company committed to donating its proceeds to charity. Give Back Brands has a vision of partnering with entertainment artists and other top talent to create and market products, then donating the company's proceeds to designated charities, including the favorite causes of the company's celebrity partners.
