  • Reports: Takeda sues Amneal over generic version of Colcrys

    NEW YORK — Generic drug maker Amneal Pharmaceuticals is seeking Food and Drug Administration approval for a gout drug, prompting a lawsuit from the maker of the branded version, according to published reports.

    Law360 reported that Takeda Pharmaceuticals USA had sued Amneal in the U.S. District Court for the District of Delaware over the drug Colcrys (colchicine), used to treat gout and familial Mediterranean fever.

  • FDA approves Lundbeck's Sabril in children

    DEERFIELD, Ill. — The Food and Drug Administration has approved a drug made by Lundbeck for treating a form of epilepsy in children, the drug maker said.

    Lundbeck announced the approval of Sabril (vigabatrin) as an add-on therapy for refractory complex partial seizures in children ages 10 years and older who have not responded adequately to other treatments, as long as the benefit of treatment outweighs the risk of vision loss. The drug was already approved for treating the same condition in adults in 2009.

  • Depomed launches Lazanda nasal spray for breakthrough pain in cancer patients

    NEWARK, Calif. — Depomed has launched a new drug for breakthrough pain in cancer patients, the company said Monday.

    The drug maker announced the launch of Lazanda (fentanyl) nasal spray, meant for treating adults who are taking opioid painkillers, but have become tolerant to them. The company also have launched a Signature Support Program designed to streamline patient access to the drug, including reimbursement and co-pay assistance. Other benefits of the program include prescription reminders and eligibility for one month's supply for free.

  • Logitech launches iPad Air accessories line

    NEWARK, Calif. — Logitech has introduced a line of accessories for Apple's new iPad Air, the electronics maker said.

    The line includes the FabricSkin Keyboard Folio, the Ultrathin Keyboard Cover, the Ultrathin Keyboard Folio and the Folio Protective Case, all designed to protect against bumps, scratches and spills while remaining thin and light.

  • Boiron launches Children’s Chestal Cold & Cough

    NEWTON SQUARE, Pa. — Boiron on Thursday introduced a new pediatric cough-cold item to its lineup — Children’s Chestal Cold & Cough, a multi-symptom formula. The new syrup targets such symptoms of the common cold as nasal and chest congestion, cough, runny or stuffy nose, sneezing and minor sore throat. It provides parents with an option that works naturally with their little one’s bodies for children ages 3 years and older after manufacturers of antihistamines and decongestants relabeled their products for children 4 years of age and older. 

  • FDA approves first single-entity, extended-release hydrocodone drug

    SILVER SPRING, Md. — The Food and Drug Administration has approved a new opioid painkiller made by Zogenix, the agency said Friday.

    The FDA announced the approval of Zohydro ER (hydrocodone) extended-release capsules for the management of pain severe enough to require daily, around-the-clock, long-term treatment. The agency said the drug was the first extended-release hydrocodone product not combined with another drug, such as acetaminophen, to be approved by the agency.

  • All American Pet Co. to sell NutraBars for dogs at Albertsons

    LOS ANGELES — Albertsons has placed an order for what is being called the "first true food bar" for dogs.

    All American Pet Co. said Friday it received an order from the grocer for NutraBars, which are designed to be high in protein and low in fat, and are made in the United States.

    The company said it also was expecting an order for Chewies Dog Treats, which are all-natural and made with peanuts, cheese and bacon. Albertsons, based in Boise, Idaho, operates 1,119 stores under 12 banners in 29 states.
