  • Astellas Pharma introduces Astagraf XL for kidney-transplant patients

    NORTHBROOK, Ill. — Astellas Pharma has introduced a new drug for preventing the body from rejecting transplanted organs, the company said Thursday.

    The drug maker announced the availability of Astagraf XL (tacrolimus) extended-release capsules in pharmacies. The drug is designed for use in kidney transplant patients with Genenetech's CellCept (mycophenolate mofetil) and corticosteroids, with or without induction of Novartis' Simulect (basiliximab).

    EAST HANOVER, N.J. — Nabisco announced this week a new gluten-free, baked snack made with rice.

    Rice Thins are a light and crispy baked snack. Rice is baked until crisp, resulting in a light texture and irresistable crunch, the company stated.

    Rice Thins are available in three flavors: White Rice Original, Brown Rice Sea Salt and Pepper and Brown Rice White Cheddar.

    Rice Thins have a suggested retail price of $3.69 per box. They are available this month at retailers nationwide.

  • Entera Health launches EnteraGam

    CARY, N.C. — Entera Health has launched a new prescription medical food product for patients with intestinal disorders, the company said.

    The drug maker announced the availability of EnteraGam (serum-derived bovine immunoglobulin protein isolate, SBI) for patients with chronic loose or frequent stools due to irritable bowel syndrome or HIV. The drug is meant to treat patients who have limited or impaired ability to ingest, digest, absorb or metabolize ordinary foodstuffs or certain nutrients.
