  • Wine, beer tie as top choices for U.S. drinkers

    PRINCETON, N.J. — A recent Gallup poll found that more U.S. drinkers ages 18 to 24 years favor wine and beer as their alcoholic beverages of choice.

    According to a survey of 1,016 adults, 64% of U.S. adults reported that they consume alcohol. Among those respondents, 35% named wine as their drink of choice, while 36% said they preferred to drink beer, a drop from 41% in 2010. Only 23% said they preferred to drink liquor.

  • Peet's Coffee & Tea introduces two new medium-roast coffees

    EMERYVILLE, Calif. — Peet’s Coffee & Tea is bringing its Peet’s Café Solano and Peet’s Café Domingo to grocery stores.

    The new medium-roast coffees are available in ground and whole bean form.

  • Wockhardt divests nutrition business

    MUMBAI, India — Indian generic drug maker Wockhardt will sell its nutrition business to France's Danone, the company said Tuesday.

    The deal is worth $355 million, according to published reports, and includes brands like Farex, Dexolac, Nusobee and Protinex.

    Wockhardt said the deal was part of a strategy to consolidate and rationalize its core operations and focus on its pharmaceutical business.

  • GMA appoints food safety executive

    WASHINGTON — The Grocery Manufacturers Association has named George Dunaif as its new VP food safety and technical services.

    Dunaif most recently served as VP global food safety at Campbell Soup. In that role, he was responsible for the company’s worldwide food safety function, including toxicology, microbiology, process safety and analytical chemistry. He also served as vice-chairman of the Campbell corporate crisis management team.

    NEW YORK — Land O'Lakes has expanded its line of butter products with a cinnamon sugar butter spread.

    The company said that the product, which comes in a 6.5-oz. tub, contains seven all-natural ingredients — cream, sugar, canola oil, water, cinnamon, salt and citric acid. Land O'Lakes said that its cinnamon sugar butter spread is versatile and can be used on a variety of foods and for cooking.

  • Two kids films arrive on DVD, Blu-ray this month

    NEW YORK — Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment is bringing two animated films to DVD and Blu-ray formats this month.

    "Mars Needs Moms" and "The Fox and the Hound 30th Anniversary 2-Movie Collection" will be available Aug. 9 at retailers nationwide.
