OPI gives nails a Barbiecore makeover via film-inspired collection

The OPI x Barbie the Movie collection features nine limited-edition shades with names that channel the movie’s feel-good energy, the company said.

On the heels of Greta Gerwig’s “Barbie” film hitting theaters, OPI has partnered with Warner Bros. and Mattel to bring the world of Barbie to manicures all over the nation.

The OPI x Barbie the Movie collection features nine limited-edition shades that were named with a conceptualization by the film’s director and writer, Greta Gerwig to channel the movie’s feel-good energy.

“OPI is excited to partner with Warner Bros. and Mattel for this collection. Barbie represents empowerment and inclusivity, which are core values of OPI,” said OPI co-founder and brand ambassador Suzi Weiss-Fischmann. “With a nail color for every mood and moment, the OPI consumer is poised to do anything. When it comes to using color for self-expression, there are no limits, just as there are no limits to what the wearer can accomplish.”

Featuring four shades that include pinks in crème and metallic finishes, as well as a bold and saturated magenta color. In addition, there also will be three bright shades of lemon yellow, sky blue and a shimmery baby blue, and two glitter shades with iridescent silver and pink particles.

Shades part of the collection include:

  • Bon Voyage to Reality!: A nude pink crème;
  • Every Night is Girls Night: An iridescent glitter shade;
  • Best Day Ever: A pink glitter hue;
  • Feel the Magic: A deep pink crème shade;
  • Welcome to Barbie Land!: A shimmery pink color;
  • Hi Barbie: A hot pink crème;
  • Hi Ken!: A bright yellow crème;
  • Yay Space!: A shimmery baby blue color; and
  • My Job is Beach: A mid-tone blue crème.

“The pink aesthetic is a fashion and beauty staple, and this collection’s hero shade Hi Barbie!a catchphrase from the upcoming film that is already taking the internet by stormepitomizes the Barbiecore trend,” said OPI global director of color equity Jill Bartoshevich. “The collection’s palette of nostalgia-evoking hues offers consumers a taste of escapism with an array of joyful colors.”

Available in OPI Nail Lacquer only, the limited-edition Barbie the Movie collection will retail for $11.49 each at professional salons, as well as OPI.com, Ulta Beauty and Amazon Beauty.
