  • PLMALive: Online advertising in favor of print opens door for store-brand messaging

    NEW YORK — Online advertising is overtaking print advertising, according to a new video report by David Merrefield on PLMALive.

    In 2011, spending on print advertising, which includes both newspapers and magazines, was $36 billion, topping the expenditure of online advertising at $32 billion. However, this year it is projected to reverse. Online advertising spending is likely to rise to $39.2 billion dollars while print is expected to drop under $33.8 billion, according to eMarketer.

  • Church & Dwight releases pair of videos as part of National Condom Month

    PRINCETON, N.J. — Church & Dwight on Thursday launched content aimed at giving Americans the facts about condoms as part of the National Condom Month designation for February.

    Featuring Trojan condoms, C&D has partnered with sexual health experts and organizations, including the American Social Health Association, to develop a pair of videos that provide consumers with the accurate information they need to make responsible decisions.

    BOSTON — Joslin Diabetes Center and American Well will collaborate on a telehealth initiative that seeks to improve and expand diabetes patients' access to high-quality care.

    The telehealth services will be powered by American Well's Online Care technology and will "[apply] a transformative healthcare innovation in support of our mission of improving the lives of people struggling with this disease," Joslin Diabetes Center president and CEO John Brooks said.

But obviously, we’ve come a long way from those now prehistoric list-servs where we simply posted messages back-and-forth with people of similar interests and pursuits. It’s still about connecting.     WOONSOCKET, R.I. — Physicians in 35% of cases involving more than 250,000 newly diagnosed diabetes patients did not follow the American Diabetes Association/European Association for the Study of Diabetes consensus guidelines for recommended treatment, according to a new CVS Caremark study.

  • FDA approves Korlym for Cushing's syndrome

    SILVER SPRING, Md. — The Food and Drug Administration has approved a drug for a rare disorder that previously had no approved medical therapies, the agency said.

    The FDA announced the approval of Menlo Park, Calif.-based Corcept Therapeutics' Korlym (mifepristone) for endogenous Cushing's syndrome, a disorder that results from overproduction of cortisol, a steroid hormone that increases blood-sugar levels.
